oh who cares about that, it wasn’t a debate directly for Sharpton, it was a community debate and as such he was addressing the community and Sharpton

Yes, I often find myself in this situation when I am dealing with people with low IQ’s.

  3. ejdf870on 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

Yes, and if you notice in life, too, the most ignorant individuals are usually the most rude, smug and arrogant.

Al Sharpton is a fucking moron.

When it comes to truth, Science and Modern Philosophy is like a farmers market. Wholesome food is not easy to find so u have to seek them out.

Religion is like McDonalds. Standing on every corner ready to serve u artificial garbage that will kill u in the long run.

People are too lazy to seek out good food. They blindly grasp what’s available to them now, because it tastes good. And they pay for it with their lives.

Listen. You want it to be mumbling, because then you don’t have to understand.

    Humans are TRIBAL

Most people don’t actually KNOW all this modern knowledge. Even where science has an explanation for nature, or philosophy an explanation of how/why to be happy and moral, most people are ignorant that the explanation exists. And even if they are aware, they don’t care, and aren’t inclined to actually sit down and do the work to understand it. ‘God’ is an easy explanation that requires no work. Religion isn’t the opium of the people, it is the lazy apathy of the people.

There will come a time when we will no longer be so discriminate and indifferent towards Religion and faith in a being besides ourselves. Atheists are solipsists; they only believe that their own self can be known to exist. There can’t be that many crazy people in the world. There are some good points Sharpton makes. Here is my point: Theists and Atheists can make quick, meaningful points; they both can and do make long, complex points. They are both wrong and right, neither are always right.

Advancing in technology is the same as growing in knowledge.

  17. YouKnowWhereThisEndson 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

Nice ad hominem attack. (i.e. an insult)

You didn’t even dent your opponent”s logic and only made yourself look like an irrational fool.

    Bravo.

Actually Hitchens is smug and arrogant. During the first session he did not even bother looking at Sharpton as he spoke.

  19. aldotkd1on 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

You should listen to the video again. He did not say that. Maybe that’s what you wanted him to say. He said that as technology advances, people still have questions which science cannot answer.

  20. MrKennyKRHon 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

Sharpton claims that as we gain more knowledge, we grow more religious…. what nonsense! The places where religion is on the rise is in the 3rd world, especially in Africa. We can see the opposite trend in the western countries. What does this tell us? Well it tells us that the rich countries, where we can afford education we become less religious and that the 3rd world countries, where education is nonexisting religion goes up. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say ignorence breeds religion?

  21. skinnywhop87on 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

Sharpton is kinda an asshole, he’s smug and very rude. Even while Hitchens is being humorous and funny he’s sitting back and rolling his eyes as if Hitchens is some street bum spewing nonsense while covered in his own shit….. But really that’s how Sharpton appears

  22. DRiPPz6800on 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

    sharpton is a hypocrite

so i see it as an atheist vs atheist debate

  23. STFUNOWlolon 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

The guy who asks the first question seems to answer his own question.

“Why is religion growing despite the fact that people have such good lives? And why does it grow even when horrible things happen?”

Obviously religion has very little to do with reality. It doesn’t matter if prayers or answered, or the quality of life, or what you do or don’t do – you just shut your eyes tight and believe.

  24. pokerstaaarson 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

    wtf are you on about

  25. DeraJaon 24 Dec 2009 at 1:41 pm

So I am the only atheist who doesn’t like to kill brown people? Fuck… maybe atheism IS evil after all…..
