Since I’ve become Atheist, I feel like I’m more free. I feel that I can live my life the way I want to! Not because some imaginary person tells me. My life has more meaning because I know this is my ONLY life. I’m not living to make me happy after I die, I am living my life to the fullest each and every day. Please don’t make the mistake and stay religious, I promise you that you will value life more. I was forced to believe when I was born, and some people just can’t make decisions alone. Poor.
You’re absolutely right. Stalin didn’t want competition from the clergy. He usurped the position of the god, and as Hitchens says, “tapped into a reservoir of credulity”.
There’s nothing wrong with quoting scripture but anyone can do that. Christians must do what it tells them to do. We are lacking in that area often. That will make the greatest impact on the world’s opinion of christianity. James1-22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1-27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Obama said something today that was both very true and relevant -”No faith justifies these murderous and craven acts; no just and loving God looks upon them with favor”, and he was right and referred to the recent killings at Fort Hood as “twisted logic”. Religion or not, these things will happen because extremists and fanatics come in all sizes and shapes.
These policies did not just exist under Stalin, but also under Lenin, Kruschev, Mao, Pol Pot, Hoxha, Ceaucescu, etc. There has never in the history of humanity been such brutality on such a massive scale. Never Again.
The very name of the groups ie.”… Atheists” and “…Godless” and their policy of “Scientific Atheism” proves that it was done in that name. As I already said, their philosophic orientations were identical to atheistic ideas being expressed today. Hitchens is probably the most identifiable – is/was a Trotskyite (Bolshevik). His reasoning and language and references confirm that point. The policies of Dawkins are very similar. And yes groups do exist in the name of atheism and to push atheism.
i’m aware of Stalinist Russia and many other atrocities where people are killed by people that are anti-religion, however I would suggest that the tag “atheism” has nothing to do with it. They killed people because of communism, politics, ideology, greed, power, competition. They killed religious people and many non-religious for these reasons.
You can’t kill in the name of something that you dont believe exists (they’re ideologies strongly existed though). They were just bad people.
Religion is the essence of your creation….. If you have some other answer than tell me, you know buddhists believe you came from a cow I think you would fit that theory, even though you believe in nothing……….believing in something guarantees you heaven believing in nothing takes you to hellfire at least you can risk it and hows religion more corrupting? religion didnt tell you to make cars, pollute the earth kill the animals, your just making assumptions very clever man…….. I think
If you have any doubt about this then I suggest you investigate publications such as Peris’ ‘Storming The Heavens:the League of the MIlitant Godless’ or ‘ Godless Communists’ by Husband or ‘the Black Book of Communism’ by Courtois et al., etc. The Guinness Book of Records also has numbers, and statements from influential persons like Solzhenitsyn also tell the story.
People were not executed and imprisoned for not being communists, by they were persecuted, executed, starved, and imprisoned by the millions for their religious beliefs. Entire towns were starved after refusing to abandon their religious practices and beliefs. Thousands of religious structures were destroyed. Atheism was not just an incidental to the communist revolution,it was a key element and supported by atheists outside of the communist states. Definitely in the name of Scientific Atheism.
Scientific Atheism was declared the guiding policy of the state, replacing state religion. Lenin, Stalin, Kruschev all embraced state atheism and brutally enforced it. Atheist publications, posters, radio broadcasts all glorified atheism and denounced religion and these policies were exported to China, SouthAsia, and Eastern Europe. Atheism was a key part of the ideology and it had the same philosophical orientation as the new atheist movement today.
You are so wrong about that. Many have been killed in the name of atheism and for atheism. Groups like the League of Militant Atheists and the League of the Godless were formed specifically to persecute and to identify any religious adherents who refused to accept atheism, in the name of atheism. Their very name implies that. Religious publications were banned but newspapers and periodicals like ‘the Atheis’t were widely circulated. All card-carrying communists were required to declare Atheism.
I realize that your primary criticism is that following any person or idea blindly without question, religious or not, is a cause of so much evil. Religion and belief are largely singled out and the picture portrayed is heavily biased. Human nature is and will always be the culprit and without religion little would change.
… or revolutionary violence which has no religious component whatsoever. C. Hitchens and other prominent atheists are clearly attacking religion while ignoring the darksides of human nature that have no connection to religion or belief.
“Saying religion is bad, man-made, limiting and false is not making a comment on the existence of a god, but on mankinds weaknesses and flaws. Irrefutable! ” – that much i do agree with you on. But to say that religion is man-made is subjective and of course, there is a human element is every grouping of people. also, to say that religion is the cause of all of this and that the results would be different without it is also wrong, ref. the massive atrocities committed under atheism or…
You have simply restated what I already said. I made no distinction between monotheism and polytheism nor did i make any statement about which beliefs were right or wrong, true or false. I only stated that belief and the expression of that belief have existed since the dawn of man. There have also been sceptics and non-believers as well. Fanaticism is a human tendency, regardless of belief.
And every culture prior to 3000bc had polytheism…that mean polytheism is right…until that time? Or that every culture had beliefs in good or bad luck omens…even though some were completely opposite…that means we really need to pay attention to omens?
What you are doing here is just a modified argumentum ad Populum
bantumwt. I think you’re getting slightly confused. (If you haven’t watched part 2, I would suggest you do).
As is clear from my video and down the info pannel, I am agnostic. I’ve got arguments for there being a creative force for existence and not.
I’ll repeat. Saying religion is bad, man-made, limiting and false is not making a comment on the existence of a god, but on mankinds weaknesses and flaws. Irrefutable!
Radical, extremist tendencies are certainly not confined to religious groups as was demonstrated by the 100+ million killed under atheistic regimes during the 20th century. More than all religious wars combined and not one religion involved in the acts.
No. The answer is that just because there is such a diversity of religions and differing views on the nature of diety does not mean that diety does not exist. If almost every culture that has existed has exhibited a belief in something supernatural and has displayed some form of worship or religious tradition, it is safe to say that it is quite natural to do so and the flaw would then be to not do so.
So the answer is: you are not different at all. Just like the mullah, the scientolgist, the tribal chieftan, the rabbi, and so forth…your way is the only way. The way you just happened to be brought up in….and you are just too blind to see. Just like them.
If religion has entirely stood in the way of scientific endeavour over the years and religious belief s and practices have existed throughout history, then there would have been no scientific endeavour. Scientific endevour has been pursued by religious and non-religious alike. They are not exclusive of each other. I find your arguments to be totally ad hoc and some to be quite vacuous also.

Belief in any god, is dangerous. You have been lied to since birth.
Look up what a “meme” is. Religion is a very dangerous meme.

It is God’s way…..not my way.

bantumwt. We are making progress. However, note that nobody kills in the name of atheism. Bad people kill, because they are bad.
Religion on the other hand justifies “weak” people to kill (not just bad people), in the name of theism.
For this reason religion is infinitely more corrupting, dangerous and scary.
